Here at Cardiff Bay Sailing we cater for the complete beginner, wishing to participate in this exciting and glamorous sport for the first time, to perhaps the dinghy sailor wishing to apply their skills to a larger boat for the first time, and all within the sheltered waters of Cardiff Bay. Our fleet of Achilles 24 keelboats are sturdy and easy to sail, making them ideal for beginners. Our fully qualified instructors will take you from novice, to a standard where you can skipper one of our yachts yourself  and perhaps take family and friends out for a sail around the bay. We tailor make our courses to suit the individual with tuition sessions  available by the hour or  you can complete a two day course. Tuition takes place both within the bay or weather permitting outside the barrage in the more demanding waters of the Bristol channel.
 
 

 
 
For the more experienced sailor we offer bare boat charter, within the bay, with boats available to hire by the hour or for the day.Clients chartering our yachts are able to make use of the visitors pontoons at Mermaid Quay, where you can stop for lunch at one of the many bars and restaurants along the waterfront. Or why not take the opportunity to sail across the bay to visit Cardiff Bay Yacht Club, tie the boat up on their visitor pontoon and enjoy a drink or perhaps lunch in their luxurious clubhouse, with panoramic views across the bay and the Bristol channel beyond. If you are looking to make a weekend of it, our yachts comfortably sleep two and overnight mooring facilities with reasonable rates are available at both Cardiff Bay Yacht Club and Penarth Marina. 
 

 
 
For those who do not necessarily want any formal tuition but dont feel they have the experience to skipper one of our yachts themselves, we can offer skippered charters, both within the bay and also weather permitting out in the Bristol channel.
You can Sit back and enjoy the ride as our fully qualified skipper takes you out for a sail, perhaps you will want to take a turn at the helm yourself. Why not  bring a bottle of wine and a picnic and enjoy lunch anchored off the seafront at nearby Penarth, the choice is all yours, please feel free to contact us if you wish to discuss any of our services.

OUR BOATS
 
Our boats are Achilles 24 keelboats,easy to sail, dont capsize,and with a cabin down below to shelter from the elements.All boats meet MCA requirements for commercial vessels,life jackets are provided, but please bring sensible footwear.
We are located at the harbour authority pontoons at Mermaid Quay opposite the Welsh assembly government building . We can offer a square mile of sheltered water for you to explore, with plenty of bars and restaurants ashore for you to visit after your sail, to help make your day more memorable.
Weather permitting, tuition and skippered hire can take place outside the barrage in the more demanding waters of the bristol channel,  locking out through the multi million pound barrage is a spectacle in itsself. Once outside the bay, the Bristol channel can boast the second highest tidal range in the world, a great opportunity for those studying navigation to put theory into practice.
In settled weather lunch can be taken at anchor off the seafront at nearby Penarth, just off the victorian pier, also a chance for the more hardy to jump in for a swim, though not compulsory .
